Support NGO

Digital Platform Design for a Non-Profit Organization.

I undertook this project as a UX designer to support a non-governmental organization (NGO) that needed a digital platform to better engage stakeholders, manage campaigns, and deliver information across communities. The NGO’s challenge was that their existing website and digital tools weren’t optimized for usability, lacked clarity in user journeys, and didn’t reflect the brand’s mission of social impact.

Research & Insights

Beginning with stakeholder interviews and user surveys using Notion and Miro, I gathered insights from the NGO’s staff, volunteers, and community beneficiaries. Key findings revealed: users found it difficult to locate volunteer opportunities, campaign progress information was buried, and mobile users struggled with navigation. There was also a need for accessibility improvements to cater to users with varying digital literacy levels.

Design Strategy & Approach

Using the insights, I developed personas and journey maps to define the core user paths. I then created wireframes in Figma showing streamlined navigation, clear calls-to-action for volunteering and donations, and a campaign dashboard for stakeholder visibility. I emphasised accessibility by simplifying language, increasing button size, improving colour contrast, and ensuring responsiveness for mobile and tablet users. To maintain consistency, I built a mini design system including typography, buttons, and iconography aligned with the NGO’s brand.

Prototyping & Validation

I developed a high-fidelity interactive prototype in Figma and conducted usability testing sessions. The feedback indicated that users could now complete key tasks (find volunteer roles, view campaign status, donate) with far less confusion. Based on testing, I iterated the design to reduce cognitive load and enhance visual clarity.

Outcome & Reflection

The result was a clean, accessible, and user-friendly platform that empowered the NGO’s stakeholders and community users. The improved design reduced task completion time significantly (measured during testing) and improved user satisfaction. This project reaffirmed my ability to design digital experiences that are both socially impactful and technically sound, highlighting the importance of empathy, research, and iterative design in my UX practice.
